Kristian Ghedina is called ‘a record man’.These are the records he has broken thus far!

1. The skier having the longer interval between his first and last time on the podium
Kristian Ghedina won his first podium in the World Championship in Val Gardena at the age of 20, on the 16th December 1989. He had finished third behind Primin Zubriggen and Franz Heinzer. His last, or most recent time on the podium was on the 8th January 2005, in Chamonix.

2. The skier who has climbed more podiums amongst the active athletes
The second place he achieved in Chamonix was the 29th downhill podium for Kristian (on 13 different ski runs) in the World Cup. As a result, Ghedina podium leadership ahead of Hermann Maier (24 podiums to date) and Lasse Kjus (23 podiums to date).

3. The skier who has gone through the most downhill starting gates
On the 29th of December 2004, Kristian passed through the downhill starting gates for the 151st time during the World Cup, thus beating the former record-holder, Peter Wirnsberger who ended his career with 150 starts in the White Circuit. Ghedina concluded the 2004/2005 season with a total of 157 starts. Ten more runs are in programmed for the 2005/2006 season.

4. The greatest Italian downhill skier of all times
With 12 victories in World Cup downhill races, Kristian Ghedina is the greatest Italian downhill skier of all times.
At an international level he is sixth in the top best racers behind Franz Klammer, Stephan Eberharter, Peter Müller, Franz Heinzer and Hermann Maier. And behind Ghedina come important names as Luc Alphand, Pirmin Zurbriggen, Bernhard Russi, Helmut Höflehner, Peter Wirnsberger, Lasse Kjus, Fritz Strobl and Marc Girardelli. Ghedina won more races than all the Italian skiers in history together.

5. The only racer to have won a World Cup downhill four times on the same ski run
Kristian Ghedina shares this record with Franz Klammer: they have both won four times on the Saslong ski run of Val Gardena in Italian Dolomites. Ghedina climbed the highest step of the podium four times between 1996 and 2001.

6. Record on the Wengen ski run
Kristian Ghedina holds the record for the longest ski run on the White Circuit; the Wengen Lauberhorn. He broke it on 18th January 1997, in 2 minutes 24 seconds and 23 hundredths of a second. Unfortunately, upon finishing the race, Kristian had a bad fall and fractured his cervical vertebra which was actually not diagnosed until two years later when he was examined for a similar injury! In addition, his 3 year old brother went into shock and remained silent for several month because of seeing the accident in TV.
